Credit Card Debt and Living a Leaner Life

Lack of jobs for people looking for work is still a very big problem in this country. And I have heard that this condition may not change for several years. I am fortunate to be working full time in the corporate world and have a small business on the side that costs very little to maintain. I feel we will never have it as good as we did five years ago, but it is probably that is mentality that got us where we are today. It was time of excess, easy credit and living beyond our means.

Not everyone followed these principles, but the media and marketing made it easy for many to fall in the trap of easy money and you can have anything you want as long as you have a credit card. The people that saved and lived below their means positioned themselves to weather almost any financial situation. With a little bit of planning and credit card debt management, anyone can become financially stable no matter how much or little you make.

Make it a priority to leave your credit cards in the drawer and right under that on your list of things to do should be the task of paying off your credit cards. Although you want to eliminate your credit card debt as quickly as possible, you do not want to do at the cost of not having money in savings. The only thing that will keep from accruing debt is having money set aside for unplanned expenses. You have to find a way of saving money and making more than minimum payments all in the same month.

You have to be willing to do what it takes to get where you want to be and that may mean doing without some things you are used to having. You may have to do without cable and internet service. You may have to look for an economical phone service and eliminate eating out. Most people have lots of room for cutting their expenses and living a leaner life.

If you can try to find a way to increase your income by $300 to $500 each month, this money will go a long way towards helping you reach a place of financial stability. This may not seem like an easy task, but looking at this as a necessity helps people find motivation that they did not know that they had. Many people simply work more hours or use a skill that they have for making the extra money.

Today’s economy makes being financially stable a challenge, but it can be done if you have a plan and adjust it as things change.
